WIF is proud to partner with Going Global with Barbara (GGwB), an organization devoted to exposing African-American youth to the possibilities that exist through travel and study abroad, on its International Youth Leadership Program. This organization is normalizing the conversation around college admissions and expanding it to include the possibility of studying abroad.
For this excursion, GGwB worked with DiscoverU, a U.S. nonprofit dedicated to helping youth successfully apply and gain admission to and complete high-quality, out-of-school learning experiences that empower them with the skills, confidence, and mindsets to advocate for their own success. DiscoverU united ten (10) university-level sophomore and junior women from College Track’s TFI Flourish program and nine (9) high school males from Youth Guidance Become a Man Fellowship Initiative (BAM-FI) for this first-of-its-kind travel experience.
WIF supported this travel abroad initiative by organizing a career development session and meet-and-greet at the U.S. Embassy’s George Marshall Center as well as a women-centric Entrée to Black Paris tour.

ENTREE TO BLACK PARIS WALKING TOUR
The group braved unusually high temperatures to experience the Entrée to Black Paris Black History in and around the Luxembourg Garden tour. WIF Founder & CEO, Dr. Monique Y. Wells, never fielded so many questions about the topics discussed during this two-hour walk, which focuses on the contributions of Afro-descendant women from multiple continents to Paris history, culture, and contemporary life.
U.S. EMBASSY – GEORGE MARSHALL CENTER
WIF traditionally organizes a meet-and-greet for students traveling with Going Global. These encounters provide an opportunity for them to meet youth from other cultures and ask questions about life as a university student outside the U.S.
For DiscoverU, WIF had the extraordinary good fortune to be able to combine this activity with an opportunity for the students to meet U.S. Embassy personnel and learn about career opportunities in the foreign service.
After Going Global’s Barbara Eubanks and Dr. Wells made opening remarks, Cultural Counselor Jehan Jones addressed the group, sharing the details of her career. She graciously responded to the wide range of questions the students and DiscoverU chaperones asked about the information she provided and the stories she told.
Students then had the chance to talk individually with U.S. Embassy staff and alumni of the Embassy’s Global Ambassador program, as well as tour the magnificent 18th-century facility.
At the end of the event, everyone gathered for a group photo in the meeting room and then outside in the courtyard.
