GOING GLOBAL WITH BARBARA:
INTERNATIONAL YOUTH LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
As WIF’s collaboration with Going Global with Barbara (GGwB) deepens and matures, we continue to support the on-the-ground activities that GGwB organizes for its International Youth Leadership Program (IYLP).
In April 2026—for its ninth Paris excursion—GGwB brought seven (7) male and five (5) female African-American high school students to Paris. In keeping with its mission, this trip was organized to participating students to the possibilities that exist through travel and study abroad.
One of the young men, Zaahir Hardaway, was a repeat IYLP student. He was part of the all-male student cohort that visited Paris in April 2024.
Zaahir applied to the American University of Paris after that visit and was accepted into the Class of 2030.
WIF supported the April 2026 excursion by providing a women-centric Entrée to Black Paris tour and attending a meet and greet with Youth Ambassadors from the U.S. Embassy and students from the American University of Paris.
ENTREE TO BLACK PARIS WALKING TOUR
The Entrée to Black Paris Black History in and around the Luxembourg Garden tour remains a fixture of GGwB excursions. WIF Founder & CEO Dr. Monique Y. Wells led this two-hour walk, which featured the contributions of Afro-descendent women from multiple continents to Paris history, culture, and contemporary life.
MEET AND GREET
GGwB students met with youth from the Embassy’s Youth Ambassador program as well as students from the American University of Paris’ Black and Abroad study group.
Everyone enjoyed pizza and snacks while getting to know each other and sharing experiences.
Dr. Wells was excited to have the opportunity to chat at length with Briana, a high school freshman who intends to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
