THE SUCCESSFUL WOMAN
Leadership & Legacy Program
A UNIQUE PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY FOR EMPOWERING WOMEN LEADERS
Do you know that high-achieving women leaders are 1.5 times more likely than men at the same level to think about downshifting or leaving their positions because of “burnout”?
It’s a sobering thought for corporate organizations that has been brought into closer focus by the additional pressures of the pandemic.
Women in leadership positions often feel alone, lonely, even guilty because of the success they’ve achieved professionally. Yet, most face substantial challenges establishing work-life balance in the face of incredibly busy schedules.
Frequently, they benefit from help optimizing their input and influence both in the workplace and as life partners, parents, and participants in their communities.
With the right access to emotional support and accountability grounded in mutual understanding and experience, they’re able to give more to the world professionally and philanthropically.
The Successful Woman Leadership & Legacy program
is specifically designed to help organizations provide professional development for their women leaders and support the particular emotional and personal needs of high-achieving women.
As the virus emerged, we accelerated work on our policies and programs. We know that caring for the well-being of our employees includes helping with child care issues, sick family members, flexibility with working hours, and access to paid sick leave, mental health resources, financial support and technologies for working remotely.
We also communicated clear expectations of our leaders: to be more flexible, stay connected on a human level and focus on retaining our talent.
Shelly McNamara, Chief Equality and Inclusion Officer, Procter & Gamble
We combine visually-engaging, “just-in-time” video training with a “live” virtual group mastermind experience and follow up mentoring to create lasting transformation for the individual.
Through mindset work, skills enhancement, behavioral exercises, and shared experiences, participants are supported in making major shifts and breakthroughs leading to better productivity, balance, a sense of fulfillment, and success in their professional and personal lives.
What Do You Need to Support Your Women Leaders
A Path Toward a More Empathetic Workplace
In the face of the global pandemic-driven crisis, many companies have made employee mental health and well-being a much higher priority.
Has yours?
The Successful Woman Leadership and Legacy program enables organizations to put provisions in place that will unequivocally demonstrate your concern for and commitment to helping your women leaders to thrive personally and professionally.
As individuals, they will see that your organization understands their need to be heard and fully supported not only in their professional advancement, but also in the fortification of an inclusive business culture and creation of strong future foundations.
Why This, Why Now?
Senior-level corporate women are under intense pressure at both work and home. The pandemic has merely amplified a pressing situation that was already there yet not fully acknowledged by many companies.
As reported in the 6th Annual Women in the Workplace study by McKinsey and LeanIn.org, women are:
- more likely than men to have a life partner who also works full-time
- more likely to be held responsible for underperformance
- more likely to be judged harshly during times of crisis (e.g., the pandemic)
and are 1.5 times more likely than men at the same level to think about downshifting or leaving their positions, primarily because of “burnout.”
The report provides sobering and shocking evidence:
The events of 2020 have turned workplaces upside down. Under the highly challenging circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, many employees are struggling to do their jobs. … more than one in four women are contemplating what many would have considered unthinkable just six months ago: downshifting their careers or leaving the workforce completely. This is an emergency for corporate America. Companies risk losing women in leadership—and future women leaders—and unwinding years of painstaking progress toward gender diversity. Up to two million women are considering leaving the workforce. The “broken rung” that held millions of women back from being promoted to manager has not been repaired. Black women are dealing with additional challenges—including long-standing issues of racial bias—and getting less support from managers and coworkers. |
Taking care of business … outside the workplace
Your company’s senior-level women are likely to be among the 41.8 million U.S. adults (reported by the National Alliance of Caregiving and AARP) who are providing unpaid caregiving for an adult loved one. They may well be “sandwich” caregivers, meaning they also have children to look after.
The National Alliance for Caregiving and Caring Across Generations report that 44% of the 11 million sandwich caregivers in the U.S. indicate a need to receive more information on at least one caregiving topic, including managing stress.
The McKinsey and LeanIn.org report has the following to say about caregiving:
… many employees—especially parents and caregivers—are facing the choice between falling short of pre-pandemic expectations that may now be unrealistic, or pushing themselves to keep up an unsustainable pace.
The Number 1 action item that the McKinsey and LeanIn report identifies to address Covid-driven gender equality – emphasized by Forbes – is to:
Make the workplace a more sustainable environment, especially for working mothers and senior level women.
Why Empower Women Leaders Specifically?
The McKinsey and LeanIn report stated:
Research shows that company profits and share performance can be close to 50 percent higher when women are well represented at the top. Beyond that, senior-level women have a vast and meaningful impact on a company’s culture. They are more likely than senior-level men to embrace employee-friendly policies and programs and to champion racial and gender diversity: more than 50 percent of senior-level women say they consistently take a public stand for gender and racial equity at work, compared with about 40 percent of senior-level men. And they’re more likely to mentor and sponsor other women: 38 percent of senior-level women currently mentor or sponsor one or more women of color, compared with only 23 percent of senior-level men. If women leaders leave the workforce, women at all levels could lose their most powerful allies and champions. |
The high-achieving woman typically faces specific emotions, frustrations and challenges that often go unspoken and unnoticed.
Nonetheless, they strongly impact her sense of joy, fulfillment, and performance on a daily basis. They include:
- being the “only” woman in her family/network who has reached her level of success
- imposter syndrome
- feeling pressured to behave in “masculine” ways to achieve success (though inauthenticity actually leads to weakness)
- feeling guilty for “neglecting” family, “neglecting” work when with family, for being more successful than family and peers.
The McKinsey and LeanIn report has the following to say about “only” women leaders:
… around 40 percent [of senior-level women leaders and women in technical roles] are Onlys. Women who are Onlys are having a significantly worse experience than women who work with other women. More than 80 percent are on the receiving end of microaggressions, compared with 64 percent of women as a whole. They are more likely to have their abilities challenged, to be subjected to unprofessional and demeaning remarks, and to feel like they cannot talk about their personal lives at work. Most notably, women Onlys are almost twice as likely to have been sexually harassed at some point in their careers. |
THE LIFE-CHANGING GAINS THAT COME FROM THE SUCCESSFUL WOMAN LEADERSHIP & LEGACY PROGRAM – the training, group mastermind and individual mentoring – are particularly important for Only women.
The gains include:
- prioritizing self-reflection and self-care without guilt
- finding clarity regarding what is truly important – personally and professionally
- increasing self-belief and self-confidence
- increasing impact as a leader – at home, at work, and in the community.
Hi,
I’m Dr. Monique Y. Wells, Founder and CEO of the Wells International Foundation (WIF). As an expert consultant and nonprofit executive, I have been delivering inspiring and effective leadership programs for start-up entrepreneurs and women leaders for over 10 years. I’ve made Women’s Empowerment one of WIF’s biggest Strategic Focus Areas, based on first-hand experience as well as the stories women around the world have shared with me.
I understand what it’s like to be a consummate professional facing daunting circumstances and to feel there is no one to turn to for advice or even true understanding, let alone discuss possible solutions to problems and concerns.
After a year of unprecedented challenges for everyone across the globe that are set to continue into 2021, I’m excited to share a timely opportunity to support women leaders and aspiring leaders who are working in corporate, running their own business, wanting to transition from one to the other, or helping communities.
The Successful Woman: Leadership & Legacy program is an exclusive and unique professional and personal development opportunity for you, your staff and/or your team to benefit from the collective expertise and experience of senior women leaders in all sectors of the global economy.
I invite you to explore how this can help your organization.

IT TOOK ME ALMOST TWO HARD MONTHS TO DISCOVER WHAT I CAME UP WITH IN 30 MINS WORKING WITH MONIQUE
During my exploratory session with Monique, I felt completely listened to and fully understood. I was impressed with her brilliance at asking just the right questions to hone in on the real issue and then suggest possible best next steps.
She suggested a technique that I recently started using successfully. I wish that I had spoken to her sooner because it took me almost two hard months to discover this solution, whereas Monique came up with it in thirty easy minutes!
I WAS ABLE TO MAKE SOME VERY IMPORTANT DECISIONS WITHOUT PROCRASTINATING OR SECOND GUESSING MYSELF
Having someone genuinely listen to my issues and concerns was in itself a great emotional and mental release. As I recognized what my true desires are, via the critical thinking invoked by Monique’s very thought-provoking insight and questions, I became more certain of the steps I needed to take.
Once I took the time to think about our conversation and use the tools, I was able to make some very important decisions in a short amount of time without procrastinating or second guessing myself.
Finally get the breakthrough your women leaders need
— from professional development to personal growth and beyond.

The “Image Roadmap”
The “Image Roadmap” is a cleverly structured worksheet that participants complete during and after Part 1 of the training. It helps women leaders discover the image others have of them compared to what they see in themselves and want people to see in them.
The worksheet also provides a place to write the action plan participants will commit to undertaking to actively craft / hone the image they want to convey as a leader once they complete the training.
“Real-time” Virtual Mastermind Session
Mastermind is defined as the “coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose.”
The virtual mastermind is a live event held via Zoom and is scheduled at a time that works for your group. Through facilitated sessions, participants will be able to tap into the power of this process with like-minded women who are currently / have already traveled the road you are navigating and are willing to share how they are handling / have handled the obstacles found along the way.
Examples of a life balance challenges past groups have wanted to address during the session include eldercare, single parenting, chronic fatigue, and other health/wellness self-care issues that hinder our ability to be the best leader possible – at home, at work, and in our community.
Sharing is empowering …
As a woman leader … you really need time to step back, question, and talk to people who have similar experience to help you think about what you’re doing in a different kind of way …. we’re often so busy that we don’t have time to do that.
The conference was the catalyst, I left with a solid vision of who I am, who I want to be, and the tools to take proactive steps forward. I also left with the sense that you’re not alone and that there are amazing women out there who have your back.
It was such a treat to be in a space with other women who were already successful, yet they came with an open heart and a mindset to grow in their understanding of themselves and their personal and professional goals and equally important, to share their wisdom with others. It was very powerful!
124-page Workbook
Exercises & Inspirational Posters
Participants in 2021 will receive a comprehensive workbook packed with exercises, templates, mindset posters, and more.
60-minute Mentoring Call with Monique
Productivity can be challenging for me, so when Monique offered to help me, I jumped at it. Whenever I was working on something that was new or that I didn’t feel as confident in, I tended to procrastinate.
One of the things I wanted to talk about was a book project I had agreed to do with an upcoming deadline. We talked about this project for about 20 minutes. She gave me 3 main tips she felt would help and I put them into practice immediately. Within 4 days, not only had I finished the project but finished it early.
I can’t begin to tell you how astounded I was! Not only was I ready for the next project, but the amount of stress it reduced in me is something I can’t put a price tag on! Monique is absolutely amazing at what she does and I would recommend her to anyone.

About US
Our Story
The Successful Woman is the Wells International Foundation’s signature International Women’s Day event. This two-day international conference / retreat, which is the source of the Leadership and Legacy training videos, offers a safe environment where you can meet other highly-accomplished women from across the globe and explore the challenges and questions of balancing professional leadership roles with expectations in your personal life.
We’ve captured the training and discussion from this highly well-received event – held pre-Covid19 in 2019 in Paris, France – into a stimulating 4.5 hours of video that women leaders and aspiring leaders can now access online alongside participating in a “live” virtual mastermind session and mentoring opportunity.
Here’s what participants at our 2-day event had to say:
Independently from the high quality and meticulousness with which the whole event was organized from a content and logistic point of view, as well as the abundant special and precious individual attention paid to each participant, I felt interested and sometimes challenged by the exercises of introspection and analysis of others’ leadership assets that punctuated the exchanges among all participants…
I found myself surrounded by a group of highly talented and inspirational women from around the world. In a few hours, we built trust to share our stories, learned from each other and started designing a new and better future. The time we spent together was a true and genuine human experience … When the day ended, I felt that transformation was already under way …
Monique’s personal story

Let me take a moment to share my personal story so you can better understand why I believe so strongly in the empowerment of women and what is being achieved through the Successful Woman Leadership & Legacy program.
A veterinary pathologist and toxicologist, I left the corporate world in 2002 and built a multi-six figure pre-clinical consultancy around my expertise doing work that I love in less than two years. Alongside this, I co-founded a travel planning service with my husband in 1999. When my pre-clinical client base was decimated during the recession that hit in 2008, I pivoted to become a productivity expert for my industry. The teleseminar training series that I developed generated rave reviews and repeat business.
As the recession deepened, I turned to a new market – serving the needs of women working alone and women working at home. It was a long, hard road to build a new skill set, create a new network, and most importantly, rebuild my confidence. I spent a couple of years and thousands of dollars in search of a mentor who understood and would advise me based on my entire professional profile, not just one of my businesses.
And it’s my first-hand experience coupled with the stories of the high-achieving and aspiring women leaders who I meet through WIF that have inspired me to create “The Successful Woman: Leadership and Legacy Program” as a personal and professional development opportunity, as well as providing one-on-one mentoring for these women.

How This Differs from Every Other Leadership Program
The overarching mission of the Wells International Foundation’s is to empower women and persons of African descent to realize their highest potential through arts, literacy, study abroad, and other educational and cultural programs.
One of our strategic focus areas is Women’s Empowerment, through which we facilitate the ability of professional women to achieve their greatest accomplishments through productivity and life balance. The Successful Woman Leadership & Legacy program is our signature package.
SHAPING LEADERSHIP & BUILDING LEGACY
TO MAXIMIZE THE SUCCESSFUL WOMAN’S INFLUENCE & IMPACT
Part 1 is all about SHAPING LEADERSHIP – helping your woman leader to shape her image to achieve maximum influence and impact in the areas where she seeks to lead and where your company can best use her talents, passion and drive.
Part 2 focuses on BUILDING LEGACY: personal, financial, and philanthropic. It demonstrates how these elements intertwine and how all of them help to build a woman’s influence and impact as a leader.
The work done during Part 1 brings the participant’s values into sharp focus and the work done during Part 2 highlights the living legacy that women leaders are building on the foundation of these values. Viewing legacy through this lens can help women “show up differently” – more authentically and powerfully – as leaders.
The “Live” Virtual Mastermind adds the important element of community to the lessons the participants learn during the video training. It provides an opportunity for them to apply what they learn during the training to a personal or professional challenge and to create a plan to overcome that challenge. It also provides relief from being the “only” – they have the opportunity to select a partner to hold them accountable to the plan they create during the mastermind session.
One-on-one mentoring allows women to take this even farther, with my individual attention focused on helping them develop new habits regarding self-care, mindfulness, gratitude, and celebration and move forward on the practical aspects of the plan they create to address their personal or professional challenge.
