“WIF is proud to have collaborated with J Rêve International on the J Rêve STEAM+ Advocacy & Engagement program that took place on 28-30 July 2017. The goal of the program was to increase awareness of arts integration into STEM and other subjects to better prepare educators, students, and governments for growing intellectual demands, student performance, and creative thinking.
J Rêve’s STEAM+ initiative emphasizes the importance of education beyond Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The added “A” and plus sign represent how adding arts to education enriches students in any discipline.
The event brought together a mix of educators, artists, researchers, and policy makers to explore ways and means of incorporating arts themes into multidisciplinary education. It included a series of round table discussions, museum visits, and a publication that highlights practical applications for STEAM education.
WIF was an ambassador for the project and contributed connections to STEAM professionals and organizations in our network. Other contributing organizations included the National Endowment for the Arts, NASA, the U.S. Department of Education, and the American Institute of Architects.
