WIF has donated books suitable for readers at the K-3 level to schools and community service organizations in Houston, TX since 2017.
Our campaign began with a collaboration with the Put It In A Book Foundation for a back-to-school giveaway of 27 books to the Shadydale Elementary School.

We went on to “adopt” Bloom Academy Charter School, an elementary school that was established in 2019. In 2020, we donated 1002 books to Bloom to support the ~90 children enrolled in the kindergarten through Grade 2 classes.
We donated an additional 150 books to Bloom’s “sister” institution, Memphis Merit Academy, in Memphis, TN.
The books given to Bloom and Memphis Merit were used to build classroom libraries. Future donations will be used to build home libraries for students at these schools.
As part of the relationship building that WIF and the Startup Squad are pursuing with Big Brother Big Sisters Houston, we collectively donated 54 books to the organization after the successful pilot recording of a WIF Virtual Story Time with child book author Rosemary Nwaosuagwu.
All the books donated depict representational race and gender role models and characters for the children who are benefiting from our gifts.
