2019 Wells International Foundation Summer Internship

In 2019, for the 4th consecutive summer, WIF welcomed an undergraduate student into our summer internship program in Paris.

When she joined the program, Maija Brennan was a rising senior at Smith College majoring in French and art history with a concentration in museum studies. Her eight-week internship focused on researching the life and art of painter Beauford Delaney and creating an online exhibition of a selection of his works.

Additionally, Maija researched Paris café culture as it pertains to artists and their work, contributed original content to Les Amis de Beauford Delaney blog, and curated content for the African Diaspora Impact in Paris Facebook group with the intent to develop a community of university students who aspire to study abroad in Paris and around the world.

The exhibition project, entitled

Beauford Delaney: A Study in Portraiture

aligns with Maija’s desire to pursue a career in museum curation, to explore how non-profit organizations and artists can work together, and to increase the public’s access to art and artists. Her work will be included in her e-portfolio and research project for the end of the upcoming academic year. The art exhibition will be available for viewing on this Web site indefinitely.

Maija talked with us about her study abroad experience and her internship project during a video interview in August 2019. Access this three-part interview here:
